From EDL to EdD: Articulation Agreements Allow Alumni to Take the Next Step

Stony Brook University has exclusive partnership programs with two regional universities that allow alumni of SPD's graduate programs to further their education by pursuing doctoral degrees. Articulation agreements with St. John's University and Hofstra University confer unique benefits to EDL alumni that may include shortened time to degree completion, tuition discounts, or both.

The agreements vary by program. Please review the information below and contact the representatives from the individual institutions for more details.

ST. JOHN'S UNIVERSITY

EDL and SDBL alumni who have successfully completed their program are encouraged to apply to St. John University's EdD program in Administrative and Instructional Leadership. Admitted students can transfer up to 30 graduate credits from Stony Brook's Educational Leadership program into the St. John's program, significantly shortening the time to degree completion.

"St. John's doctoral program is scheduled for working professionals to make the most of doctoral work despite busy schedules. The cohort model has enhanced my experience by allowing me to build a new network of professionals seeking to improve education. My professors have pushed my thinking and allow me to personalize assignments to make them authentic and meaningful."

Ryan O'Hara, EDL '13

HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY

Stony Brook University and Hofstra University have joined together to ease the path to a doctoral degree for alumni of Stony Brook's Educational Leadership program. Stony Brook graduates will be able to apply the credits they have earned in their post-master's certificate program toward Hofstra's Ed.D. in Educational and Policy Leadership.

Upon acceptance by Hofstra, Stony Brook alumni will have the opportunity to take two Hofstra doctoral courses at Stony Brook (at Stony Brook's tuition rate). They will transfer these and their previous program credits into the Hofstra doctoral program, thus reducing the EdD credit requirements from 79 to 43.
