About the Office of the Provost

The Office of the Provost is responsible for sustaining academic excellence and sound budgetary practices across the range of programs in the colleges, schools, research centers, and interdisciplinary institutes across Stony Brook University (SBU). The Provost acts on behalf of the President in her absence, and works closely with the Dean of the Medical School/Vice President of the Health Sciences Center and the Vice President for Research.

The Office of the Provost advances Stony Brook University’s missions in research, scholarship, art-making, and teaching. As one of the nation's leading universities, Stony Brook fosters a creative and supportive academic environment spanning all disciplines, in the arts, humanities, engineering, life sciences, physical sciences, and social sciences.
