use Library of Congress call numbers. Unlike the Dewey Decimal System,
these call numbers begin with letters of the alphabet. The subject
categories are:

There are no classifications beginning with the letters I, O, W, X,
or Y. (A small x in front of a call number indicates an oversize book,
which is shelved in a separate location.)
At a slightly more detailed level, a second letter--and sometimes
even a third--may be added. The P classification, for example, breaks
down roughly like this:
