Leonie Huddy, Ph.D.
Director, Center for Survey Research

Dr. Leonie Huddy is Founder and Director of the Center for Survey Research and Associate Professor of Political Science at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Her general field of interest is the psychology underlying public opinion and she has been the principal investigator for grants funded by the National Science Foundation. Dr. Huddy developed the “Health Pulse of America,” a national poll conducted to survey opinions of 810 adult Americans on their views about healthcare issues including adult weight and nutrition, childhood obesity, steroids, and stem cell research. Dr. Huddy is a regular poll commentator on national CBS radio, and has been quoted on poll-related matters in a variety of national newspapers and magazines including The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Reuters, Bloomberg News, Newsday and the Financial Post.

Josephine Connolly-Schoonen, M.S., R.D., CD/N
Childhood Obesity Prevention and Management Expert

Josephine Connolly-Schoonen is a Registered Dietitian and Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Stony Brook University Hospital and Medical Center, and author of Losing Weight Permanently with the Bull's-Eye Food Guide (Bull Publishing, 2004). Ms. Connolly is an expert in obesity prevention and management, and is currently conducting a clinical trial to explore changes in resting metabolic rate associated with different patterns of weight loss. She also specializes in the nutritional management of diabetes, hyperlipidemia and hypertension. Ms. Connolly is the Director of the Stony Brook Dietetic Internship Program and Director of the New York State funded Heart Links Project, which facilitates the adoption of nutrition policies that promote healthy food environments in schools. Ms. Connolly has appeared on Good Morning America and The Food Channel and has been quoted on nutritional matters in national magazines including Vogue, Shape and Parents.

Debra Dwyer, Ph.D.
Health Economist

Dr. Debra Dwyer is Assistant Professor in health and labor economics with ties to Stony Brook’s Public Health program. Her research examines the economic impact of health and an aging population. She is interested in troubled markets and policy reform. In particular, she has contributed in the areas of research related to Social Security and Health Policy. She has been the principal investigator for grants funded by the National Institute of Aging (NIA), the Boston Center for Retirement Research (CRR), and the Michigan Retirement Research Consortium (MRRC). Dr. Dwyer is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles in national journals. She is currently working on the impact of aging and health on retirement and retirement planning, malpractice policy, and the impact of school food policy on the childhood obesity epidemic.
