Public Perception Survey of Long Island Sound Watershed Residents The goal of the project was to collect information from residents of the watershed areas affecting Long Island Sound in both New York and Connecticut regarding their environmental attitudes, knowledge, and behavior. 1200 completed interviews were conducted with randomly selected adult residents of the coastal and watershed areas surrounding Long Island Sound. The sample was drawn based on telephone exchanges within zip codes covering the area up to 10 miles from the Long Island Sound in Connecticut and New York. Sample design and information obtained during interviews allowed for reliable geographic and demographic comparisons. The study was funded by a grant from the EPA through the Long Island Sound Study.
