Stony Brook Temperament Study

The Center for Survey Research is conducting a preliminary screening survey for parents of pre-school children in Suffolk County. The purpose of the Temperament Study is to better understand children's temperaments and behavior. The study is being conducted between 2004 and 2006 by Dr. Daniel Klein of the Stony Brook University Department of Psychology.

Survey of Parents of Public and Charter School Students in Washington, D.C.

Parents of students attending the Public and Charter Schools of Washington, D.C. were surveyed annually over a period of four years, beginning in the Fall of 2000. Half the sample was drawn from parents with a child in a public school and the other half with children in private schools. The study assessed current satisfaction levels of parents with their children's schools and the process by which they make educational choices for their child. In 2003 and 2004 interviews were also conducted with respondents’ children who attended grades 7 through 12.

The study was conducted for Dr. Mark Schneider and Jack Buckley, both of the Department of Political Science at Stony Brook University, and was funded by the National Science Foundation.

Stony Brook University Institutional Self Study: The Student Experience, a Survey of Faculty, Alumni and Students

This Spring 2003 study consisted of a series of surveys with Stony Brook University Alumni, Faculty, Graduate and Undergraduate Students to assess their educational experiences and community life at the University. The study was conducted for the Office of the Provost as part of the 2002-2004 Middle States Reaccredidation process.

Surveys of Graduate Students at Stony Brook University

The first survey, conducted in the Spring of 2003, assessed Stony Brook graduate students' opinions on several important campus issues, and their satisfaction with their campus facilities. The study was funded by The Graduate Student Organization, The Graduate School, The Faculty and Student Association and the President’s Office of Stony Brook University.

The second graduate student survey , conducted in the Fall of 2004 for the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, assessed graduate students’ satisfaction with conditions and services related to on-campus housing.

Survey of Chicago Public School Teachers

This survey, conducted by CSR in the Spring of 2002, explored the quality of the work environment of Chicago’s Public School Teachers, and the ways in which that environment affects their teaching. The study was conducted for the Chicago Teacher’s Union, in conjunction with the Capital Budget Group, and was funded by the Ford foundation.

This telephone survey of Stony Brook Alumni assessed respondents opinions of the services and information provided to them by the Alumni Relations Office. The survey was conducted for the Stony Brook Alumni Relations Office in the Spring of 2002.

Survey of Faculty Usage of University Library Resources

A telephone survey conducted in the Spring of 2002 of Stony Brook’s tenured and tenure track faculty collected information about the utilization of the University's Library collections and services. The study was conducted for the Director of Libraries.

Survey of University Department Chairs and Assistants

This study, conducted in Spring 2002, assessed satisfaction with the newly consolidated College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Office. Department chairs from every department in the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as their assistants or others who have contact with the Dean's office, were contacted. The survey was conducted for the Stony Brook University Senate.

Surveys of First Year Students at Stony Brook University

Conducted each semester for the Stony Brook University Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, telephone interviews are conducted with entering undergraduate students regarding their orientation experiences and adjustment to campus life.
