The Stony Brook
University Music Library: serves a diverse population of patrons,
including students, faculty, staff, community members, music teachers and
members of local performance organizations maintains a variety of collections, including printed scores, books,
journals, manuscript facsimiles, microforms, compact discs, audio cassettes,
LPs, videocassettes, DVDs, CD-ROMs and reel-to-reel recordings develops its collections
in support of the teaching and research activities of the Music Department,
especially in the areas of performance, history, theory, composition and
pedagogy was originally
located on the second floor of the Melville Library, from 1972 until 2001,
when it was extensively renovated and moved to the first floor, northwest
wing of the Library
consists of a Reading Area, a Listening Area with 50 carrels, a Periodicals
Area, a Seminar Room and stacks area is a depository for recordings of Music Department recitals, concerts
and other events provides services including reference assistance and bibliographic
instruction
