| The
journey began in Copenhagen Denmark on June 9 with a target arrival
date at Bellport, NY in early July. We post messages from these brave
seamen below and mark their progress on this
map. |

Updates:
- 6/12: The sail began on June
9. They went through the Kiel Canal to the river Elbe and are 30 mi
from the white cliffs of Dover.
- 6/14: In Portsmouth. May layover
a few days because Bill is ill. Posted some pictures they sent (See
below-left. Click on the pictures to enlarge).
- 6/15: Bill recovering. Picture
of Phil planning Fall lectures in Bess' luxurious sleeping
quarters.
- 6/20: Bill OK. Have encountered
bad weather. On the way. Next stop: Azores
- 6/21: Not much progress. Still
battling a storm. Have posted their position at 9:30 AM today (their
time zone) on our
map.
- 6/24: Some progress. They are
about 300 miles from the port of Horta in the Azores.
- 6/26: Have arrived in Horta.
They will spend a few days here before resuming sail. Here is a picture
of Horta taken from the Web.
- 6/28: Setting sail again. Next
stop - US? Bermuda?
- 6/29: On their way to Bermuda.
Just ~2,000 mi (as the crow flies).
- 7/02: Westward Ho! Several fish
dinners.
- 7/07: Good winds, blue skies,
blue sea. Only 1200 mi to Bermuda. Occasional flying fish & petrels.
- 7/10: Making good progress.
~390 mi from Bermuda. Nice winds. Temperatures pleasant. "Miles
and miles of blue ocean."
- 7/11: Bill phoned from St. George,
Bermuda. All is well. Next stop Northport - in a few days.
- 7/12: Posted some additional
pictures, below.
- 7/16: Welcome Home. They are
back! Arrived Montauk this morning. Sailing to Northport.
